Our software development process

Our software development process:
five phases, weekly demos, no surprises.

A transparent software development process is how we keep our fixed-price promises. Here's exactly how our Wellington-led, Goa-engineered team takes a website, SaaS product or data platform from the first conversation to launch and beyond — and what you'll see at every step.

Each phase of our agile development process — and what you get

01

Discover

Typically 1–2 weeks · led from Wellington

Every project starts with a free 30-minute discovery call. If it makes sense to continue, we run a discovery workshop — in person in Wellington or online anywhere in New Zealand — to understand your goals, your users, your existing systems and what success actually means for your business.

We deliberately invest time here because a clearly defined scope is the only honest way to offer fixed-price software development.

What we do

  • Stakeholder and user interviews
  • Technical and data audit of your existing systems
  • Requirements, priorities and risk mapping
  • Architecture options with clear trade-offs

What you do

  • Join a 2–3 hour discovery workshop
  • Share access to relevant systems and data
  • Nominate a decision-maker
Output: a fixed-scope proposalScope, milestones, team, timeline and a fixed price in NZD — yours to keep whether or not you proceed.
02

Design

Typically 2–4 weeks · design in Wellington, architecture in Goa

Before writing production code, we make the product tangible. User flows, wireframes and a clickable prototype let you react to something real, while our engineers finalise the solution architecture, data model and integration plan behind it.

Changing a screen in Figma costs an hour. Changing it after it's built costs a sprint — so we get the thinking right here.

What we do

  • UX flows, wireframes and a UI design system
  • Clickable prototype for usability testing
  • Solution architecture and data model
  • Backlog broken into estimated two-week sprints

What you do

  • Review designs (usually two rounds)
  • Put the prototype in front of real users
  • Sign off the sprint plan
Output: approved design and sprint planPrototype, design system, technical architecture document and a prioritised, estimated backlog.
03

Build

Two-week sprints · engineered in Goa, led from Wellington

Development runs in two-week agile sprints. You see working software every week in a live demo — not a slide deck — and every change passes peer code review, automated tests and continuous integration before it reaches a shared staging environment.

The code lives in your repository from the first commit. You own it, and you can read it, run it or audit it at any time.

What we do

  • Sprint planning, daily stand-ups and retrospectives
  • Feature development with peer code review
  • Automated unit, integration and end-to-end tests
  • CI/CD pipelines to staging environments
  • Weekly demo and written progress summary

What you do

  • Attend the weekly demo (30 minutes)
  • Test features on staging and give feedback
  • Re-prioritise the backlog with your NZ project lead
Output: working software, every sprintTested, reviewed increments in your repository, deployed to staging, with release notes.
04

Launch

Typically 1–2 weeks · both hubs on call

Go-live is planned, rehearsed and monitored — never a Friday-afternoon deploy. We run security and performance checks, migrate data with verification, document everything and train your team before switching over.

A hypercare period follows launch, where the same engineers who built your product watch it closely and respond fast.

What we do

  • Security review and dependency audit
  • Performance, accessibility and SEO checks
  • Data migration with reconciliation
  • Monitoring, alerting and backups configured
  • Documentation and hand-over training

What you do

  • User acceptance testing (UAT) sign-off
  • Approve the go-live plan and date
  • Communicate the change to your users
Output: a monitored production systemLive product, runbooks, documentation and a defined hypercare window.
05

Grow

Ongoing · flexible support and roadmap

Launch is the start, not the end. We use real usage data, analytics and your customers' feedback to decide what to build next — and we keep your platform secure, up to date and fast in the background.

Most clients move to a monthly support plan or a dedicated development team, with the same people who built the product.

What we do

  • Support and maintenance with agreed response times
  • Analytics review and improvement backlog
  • Security patches and dependency upgrades
  • Quarterly roadmap sessions

What you do

  • Share business goals and customer feedback
  • Prioritise the roadmap with us
Output: a product that keeps improvingPredictable monthly cost, a healthy platform and a roadmap tied to business results.
Inside a sprint

A typical week working with our NZ–India team

Wellington afternoons overlap with Goa mornings, so key meetings happen live in both time zones — and engineering continues while you're offline. You get the responsiveness of a local Wellington software company with the capacity of a dedicated offshore team.

Engineering standards

Quality isn't a phase. It's the pipeline.

Every change — whether it's written in Goa or Wellington — goes through the same automated quality gate before anyone sees it. This is how a distributed software development team ships with confidence.

👀Peer code reviewNo change merges without a second senior engineer's approval.
🧪Automated testingUnit, integration and end-to-end tests run on every push.
🔐Security scanningDependency and secret scanning built into every CI run.
🚀Continuous deliveryRepeatable, one-click deployments to staging and production.
📈ObservabilityLogging, metrics and alerting from day one — not after the first outage.
📚Living documentationArchitecture decisions and runbooks kept in the repo, next to the code.
