Who we build for
We work with New Zealand SMEs that rely on their website to be found and to generate enquiries: professional services, trades and contractors, retailers, clinics, and early-stage companies launching a first real product site.
Projects are led from Wellington — ABNOVA Digital is the engineering studio of Abnova Limited, a New Zealand registered company. Design and development is delivered by our team in Goa. In practice that means you scope and review in NZ hours with one point of contact, and you get a build team that is cost-effective without being a marketplace freelancer. We say this upfront because you should know who is writing your code.
What we build
Custom WordPress websites
Most business sites we build run on WordPress, using Gutenberg and Advanced Custom Fields rather than a heavy page builder. That keeps the front end fast, keeps the editing experience simple, and means you are not paying a licence fee to edit your own content. Typical scope: 5–15 pages, reusable content sections, enquiry forms, blog or resources, and a structure that can grow.
WooCommerce and Shopify stores
WooCommerce suits stores that live alongside a content-heavy WordPress site or need custom logic. Shopify suits teams that want hosted infrastructure and a simpler day-to-day admin. We set up product catalogues, variations, shipping, tax, customer accounts, and NZ payment options including Stripe, Windcave, POLi and Afterpay. We will tell you which platform fits before you commit — it is not a sales question for us.
Redesigns and migrations
If your site is slow, hard to edit, or no longer matches the business, a rebuild is usually cheaper than patching. We audit what currently earns traffic, keep those URLs, map 301 redirects for anything that changes, and watch Search Console for four weeks after launch. The aim is a better site that does not cost you the rankings you already have.
Custom and dynamic builds
When standard CMS functionality is not enough — client portals, searchable directories, booking flows, calculators, gated content, or a front end built in Next.js — we scope it as a defined piece of work with its own estimate. If the requirement is closer to a product than a website, we will point you to SaaS development instead.
What a website costs
Pricing depends on page count, design complexity, eCommerce requirements, integrations and content. These are honest starting points, quoted as fixed scope in NZD:
| Build | From (NZD, excl. GST) | Typical timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Starter / landing page site | $3,500 | 2–4 weeks |
| Business website (WordPress, 5–10 pages) | $6,000 | 4–8 weeks |
| eCommerce store (WooCommerce or Shopify) | $8,000 | 6–12 weeks |
Every quote includes Figma design, responsive build, technical SEO setup, analytics and Search Console configuration, testing, and handover training. What moves the price: number of unique page templates, product count and variations, third-party integrations, content writing, and custom functionality.
We do not compete on being the cheapest. A low first price usually means a template, no design stage, and no SEO foundation — which costs more to undo than to build properly. If budget is tight, we would rather phase the build: launch the pages that earn enquiries now, add the rest in stage two.
How a project runs
Discover, Design, Build, Launch, Grow. You approve the Figma designs before any code is written, and you get a working demo link every week from the first build sprint. Scope changes are quoted before they happen, not invoiced afterwards. Full detail is on our process page.
SEO and performance: what is in the build
Being clear about this matters, because plenty of agencies sell “SEO included” and deliver a plugin install.
Included in every build: semantic HTML and correct heading structure, editable titles and meta descriptions, clean URLs, canonical tags, XML sitemap, schema markup, image compression and lazy loading, mobile-first layouts, Core Web Vitals tuning, 301 redirect mapping on migrations, and Google Analytics 4 plus Search Console setup.
Not included, and not something a build alone delivers: rankings for competitive terms. That needs ongoing content, topical depth, reviews, local signals and links over months. A technically sound site is the floor, not the finish line. We will tell you honestly where your market sits before you spend.
Ownership and what happens after launch
When the project is paid, you own the site, the source code, the design files and the agreed IP. Hosting and domains stay in your name. There is no lock-in contract and nothing is held hostage if you move on. The only exceptions are clearly listed third-party licences, fonts or SaaS tools that carry their own terms.
After launch we offer optional maintenance: hosting, daily backups, core and plugin updates, security monitoring, uptime checks and a monthly block of content changes. You can take it, or take the files and run it yourself.
